Description
Malshej Ghat is a mountain pass in the Western Ghats range in the Kalyan–Ahmednagar Road of Maharashtra, India. The site is nestled in the lofty rugged hills of the Western Ghats.
Shivneri Fort is a 17th-century military fortification located near Junnar in Pune district in Maharashtra, India. It is the birthplace of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of Maratha Empire. At the centre of the fort is a water pond which is called 'Badami Talav', and to the south of this pond are statues of Jijabai and a young Shiva. In the fort there are two water springs, called Ganges and Yamuna, which have water throughout the year.
Bhimashankar Temple is a Jyotirlinga shrine. It is located in the Ghat region of the Sahyadri Mountains. Bhimashankar is also the source of the river Bhima, which flows southeast and merges with the Krishna river near Raichur. The great Maratha ruler, Shivaji is also said to have made endowments to this temple to facilitate the carrying out, of worship services. As with other Shiva temples in this area, the sanctum is at a lower level. The 'Shani temple' is located inside the main complex of the temple of Bhimashankar.
Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary's is a part of Western Ghats. The sanctuary harbours large diversity of endemic & specialised flora and fauna. Sanctuary is home to the state animal of Maharashtra- Ratufa indica elphistonii, sub species of the Indian Giant squirrel(Flying Squirrel - Shekhru) that is one of three threatened Indo-Malyan squirrel species.
